Grief and Loss

Grief and loss are two serapate but closely related terms. Grief and loss can come in many, many different forms. While the most common loss we might think of is the loss of a loved one, there are many others-- loss of identity, loss of independence, loss of a dream, etc. When we consider grief we might typically think of the process of mourning the loss of a loved one. However, this is only one picture of grieving. Grief can be disenfranchised, delayed, complicated, chronic, and other forms.

Grief

Grief is the normal process of reacting to the loss of something or someone important. It is a multilayered reaction in that it has emotional, physical, cognitive, behavioral, social, and philosophical dimensions. Grieving is an outward expression of your loss.

Loss

Loss is a specific instance of losing somoene or something. There are many different types of loss, and loss certainly isn't only concerned with death.

At Pine Coast Counseling, I offer compassionate support to individuals experiencing loss and grief, grounded in the hope and comfort of Scripture.
